I managed to roll a cigarette up whilst driving once, I'm not proud of it and wouldn't dare do it now. When you're young you do these stupid things.

I drove home once without touching the steering wheel with my hands, ahh the idiocies of youth.

Based on what I see on the roads daily, I'm not expecting this forum to consist of only perfect drivers

I've done it on several occasions, out of necessity, because the clutch pedal/hydraulics/fork has failed.

Well this was a Ford escort, clutch always seemed a bit optional on it.

BTW Folks I'm not in any way trying to excuse what I did, it was reckless and very stupid to say the least, but sadly young people, especially men do stupid things.

You'll be glad to know I drive like an old man now (not my old man though coz he's 84 and drives like a nutter! - he probably shouldn't be driving anymore)

I was shocked at the first replies to my post & suspect the authors are of a younger generation that consider today's standards as normal because they have never encountered anything better.

It was always better in my day.

Road deaths have thankfully come down since back in the day.

The reduction is mainly due to improvements in vehicle construction ( crumple zones ) protection systems ( air bags ) and other means to deal with the decreasing standards of driving

You have some report or evidence to backup the claim - driving standards have fallen? I am genuinely interested to know if they have. If they have whats the causes?
