Yeah, normal mash with butter and a couple of teaspoonfuls of wholegrain mustard. We normally have it with duck breasts or venison.

First born is currently living in Auz, and says they have some decent pale ales.

The fizzy cold lager may poss be what's needed in such a hot climate. I believe they do some darker, English style ales as well. Not sure if they are like our bitters. I've not been. On visits to The States, remember going out for the evening to bars and drinking a reasonable amount of Coors because that's about the only beer many bars do - though things may be improving. Driving the car back to our accomm. I felt sober as a judge. Did manage to seek out some better beers like Samuel Adams and in the Tennessee area you could get Jack Daniels beer. Even the odd microbrewery.

When I was there, fortyish years ago, I thought the mass market lager style beers were much better than the ones we got here at the time. I could never drink Carling etc, but I really liked Tooheys. Also, it seemed to suit the climate. Australia didn't really have much air conditioning back then. And a bit stronger than I had expected. Also, the standard beer measure is a schooner, which is a nicer size to hold than a pint, as it's basically three quarters.

Years ago, a mate of mines girlfriend used to drink sherry. She would always ask for a schooner which was just a double sherry. I don’t think it was quite three quarters of a pint though!
