What are you drinking tonight?

It was only when the likes of Magners became big over here that I realised that the people in Dublin were adding ice to their cider.

Anything to kill the taste with that stuff.

I don't like head on my lager. I could not imagine potentially diluting it with water.

I am known in my local pub as the only guy that doesn't like head...

If I'm far enough "oop north" for the pumps to have them, I'll often ask the bartender to unscrew the sparkler when he draws my pint.

I spent too many evenings as a kid sitting on park benches and drinking cheap cider, and then puking it up later. The sweet taste of the chunder put me off ciber for the rest of my life.

Oh I like good ciders. Just not the mass-produced industrial stuff.

The biggest problem I find is that some of them can be pretty strong, which is nowhere near as obvious as it is with beer, and they slip down far too easily.

A new survey has found that more than a quarter of adults under 35 commit the sin of dilution to keep their pint cool. Is this alarming new trend here to stay?

Iced tea?
Sure.

Iced Beer?

No. No-no-no-no...God! No.
When I went to Florida for holiday in 1980 I was surprised to find 6-packs of 'beers' called 'Life it yourself' - in the 6- pack 5 cans of beer and I can of the brewing water to add to the beer to dilute(?) as desired...
Was it worth buying? Don't know it seemed such a waste.

I recall going to Busch Park in Orlando in 1991. They were offering free samples of a lemon flavoured lager "slush puppy". It really was lovely. I kept going back for another and had to "convince" the staff that I was one of eight identical octuplets. That said, if it was the slush puppy or samples of proper lager, I would have gone for the latter.

We had loads of beer samples in Busch gardens when we went there around the same time.

Generally, brewers have spent a great deal of time and effort to get their creations how they want them.

To just them slosh some water or ice into them defeats their efforts.

Very true, but equally do you ever put salt/pepper/etc on your meal at a restaurant? Ever fit tyres other than the OEM brand to your car?

"How they want them" doesn't always map to how you want them

Didn’t quite polish off both of 'em. Half a bottle went into a boeuf bourguignon that I made alongside tonight’s dinner for freezing for a later date. Our daughter helped us with the other bottle and a half.

At a house party, time to go home, vodka and orange all night, been here since 3pm so had my fill.

The best thing to do with vodka is turn it in to gin.

I’m sharing a bottle of pink Prosecco with ms motorbiking. Compromise is the key to getting along.
