I can’t believe I’m the first to bring it up!

So, what’s your opinion on it? Let’s try not to get the thread shut with name calling etc.

My initial thoughts are it seems fair - treating all immigrants the same. Yes, there will be a shortage in some industries and costs to the end users will rise but maybe that will force employers to pay a decent wage to UK nationals. What say you?

In my view, it’s no different in principle to what Germany did to British building workers in the nineties which seemed fair to me. Look after your own first should be practiced by all countries.

The alarmists are already claiming that we will be unable to attract workers, I don't hear of that problem in Australia.
The remainers have been a little subdued this week, I'm not altogether surprised after reading David Frost's speech to the EU. It was a belter, our position is very clear.

I think there will be a few hiccups along the way (for example, they already lowered the wage minimum from £30k so the points system included a nurse wage) but hopefully it will work.

doesnt happen like that asyllem seekers get somthing like £40 food vouchers are not entitled to work or claim any benefits
they have no automatic entitlement to education or housing or heath care they are not allowed to work they will usually come within the emmegration department who will be responsible for them while the appeal is progressed through the system if they do a runner are no drain on the system because as illegal they cannot register with any agencies so are forced to work at bellow minimum wage often sleep 10 to a room and have no recourse to justice as they need to be invisible

There's only a couple of options. Make all these seasonal jobs more appealing to the young Brits (students etc) and the price will rise for the consumer. Personally though I think the government will just change point systems to suit shortages in certain sectors, as and when it's needed.

Indeed so we end up with slum towns increased crime etc...it's still happening like that, there have been and are 1000's slipping through.

When a foreign national, who can barely speak English, secures a job that an English person has applied for then surely it says more about the English person than the foreign national?

I get the impression that English people just don't want these jobs, rather than a foreigner beating them to it.

The problem with the government responding to shortages and altering the points system requires at least a year or two of data, it is not pre emotive.

If companies cannot get staff those that can will simply offshore more.

Those jobs that cannot be offshored and would not be able to fulfill demand from UK citizens will need to have a long hard think about how they organise their business.

On the face of this, employers are unhappy but the incentive thrown to them will be degregulation, cuts in workers rights, environmental rights etc.
