70 ,000 NHS

Vastly lower? We haven't had this level of daily deaths since the winter 2021 wave.
Daily deaths are about double they were in June 2020, which was 6 months before we had a vaccine.

It's strange that people are just saying this is nothing.

Compared to number of cases....

It's difficult to say how much of an impact the vaccine is having, but vacines are said to be considerably weaker against the omicron variant

I don't remember it like that at all. Evidence from SA, at the time, suggested less severe illness. Some commentators suggested Omicron could lead us out of the pandemic. I was certainly glad to hear something different.

Latest from SA is far from less severe.

"Really interesting that SA deaths are increasing a lot, more than a month after the peak in cases. #Omicron is not following the usual 14-21 day lag seen for other waves. Also, there is large >30% excess deaths above historical average—3000 excess/week." - Dr Eric Feigl-Ding - https://twitter.com/DrEricDing/status/1482859559882567681

And....

"We’re at 1,984 American Covid deaths yesterday, almost all among the unvaccinated. We’re hitting 2,000 deaths/day once again. Omicron is a serious virus pathogen."
Prof Peter Hotez MD PhD - https://twitter.com/PeterHotez/status/1482717279443988489

UK could be going the same way.

Let's hope the experts are wrong this time.

So the WHO are scaremongering, therefore you quote the WHO as a rebuttal to the WHO? Ok.

lol,

they said it was milder, and now they are saying it is not..... whats the story here?

at the end of the day, if it was so serious we would be in lockdowns right about now.

It would seem to be a little milder, rather than mild. If it proves to be serious, no doubt there will be locksowns..

I think they are saying Omicron is milder than Delta, but it doesn't make it a mild disease per say. One (non covid) disease could be milder than another but they could both still be killers none the less.

i've only stated it was milder...

it is now being reported that the omicron wave is likely to have peaked,

i very much doubt there will be any further restrictions based on evidence currently available.

as stated previously, i'm no covid denier, and am a fully jabbed up member of the vaccinated society, but we need to not lose our marbles in fear and panic, we've had enough of that witht he petrol crisis and every other crisis they've made a meal over (anyone remember the supposed shortage of turkey's, and then Aldi and others were selling them off for a £ on xmas eve)

thats what i'm saying..
i'm not saying its just the flu

Why not go to the horses mouth

Does SA say they have no people in hospital as Omicron is weaker? Lockdown type actions are introduced purely to limit the number of people who go into hospital. Deaths are a secondary factor. When there people either survive or die. If hospitals get too overloaded so people can't be treated death numbers would be entirely different.

Staff have not been jabbed up
According to the radio news

They all face the sack come April

in one hospital trust 30 midwifes have refused the jab and if they all get the bullet the dept will probably have to shut

imo they will have to step back from sacking em ???
Looks like they are serious about it. Mrs Mottie does some work for the NHS. Today everybody received a notice stating that due to government legislation, unless there are any genuine reasons why people cannot be vaccinated, any unvaccinated staff wishing to remain employed after 1st April will have to have their first vaccination by Feb 1st in order to be able to have their second vaccination and be fully vaccinated by April 1st.
