Winter of Discontent (202)2

How does one improve on £80k for driving a train four days a week?
how many get that much then ?

standard hours or loads of overtime, and anti social hours ?

what's an M P get ? How many hours do they have to do for it ?

MP's aren't going on strike so don't bother with the whataboutery.

The train drivers are well paid for doing not much more than flicking a switch. They may want more money, everyone does, but seriously do they deserve it? No chance.

I am an authoritarian, with leanings towards the right to choose.

I prefer that if someone does not like the pay, they try and find the same job with better pay somewhere else, rather than resort to blackmail.

So you don't approve of price negotiation.

If I were an NHS paramedic, which other companies should I apply to?

Don't MP's just decide they want more money then vote on it?
IPSAhas decided that the annual adjustment to MPs’ basic pay for 2022-23 will be the same as the average increase in pay for public sector employees last year. They will therefore receive an increase of 2.7%, bringing the overall salary from £81,932 to £84,144 from 1 April 2022.

They have transferable skills that could be used in other occupations. They could even move to a different health authority - they don’t all pay the same. Try Googling 'paramedic jobs uk'.

And they are

thats the problem retention in the NHS is extremely low.

thats why the NHS is collapsing.

Go to uni, get better qualified, get a better paid job?
Or just become a Tory MP

Owen Paterson got £500,000 of NHS money for a few phone calls.

Corruption pays……and Woody votes for it.

But I'm not moaning about it, nor holding the public to ransom by blackmail.
Are you a private contractor, self-employed?
Then i presume you have the opportunity to adjust your prices to offset the costs of inflation on materials, something Public Sector workers, such as teachers, doctors and train drivers cannot do.

Prices [wages] can't be "adjusted" just because I want more money, as the client [employer] will/ can only pay what they can afford to pay, and that's how the market works.

Wife is a nurse as are lots of family members. The job description versus the salary is pretty fair -- they all agree that, however the reality of problems in the NHS mean the work is much harder than it should be.

Some nurses do 'get it easy' in quieter hospitals and surgeries, but there are so many different types of nurses. District nurses are incredibly stretched and trusts relying on bank staff to fill gaps (on much better rates of pay). All the DNs and Community Nurses I know work hard and all take their work home with them. Many work Sundays but once tax, NI, fees, pension, etc. have come out it's barely worth it, but they have to as they really do care about the people on their books.

I think we could attract far more nurses if we stopped charging them tuition fees as before. Who wants to be saddled with over £30k of debt to go into nursing?

I fully support them. Life is much more expensive now and a respected job like nursing needs to be paid fairly.
