What are you drinking tonight?

Years ago, a mate of mines girlfriend used to drink sherry. She would always ask for a schooner which was just a double sherry. I don’t think it was quite three quarters of a pint though!

I had never heard of that! But Googling shows it was named after the ships which brought sherry from Spain.

An article explaining why an Australian schooner is the perfect glass for beer.

As Elle Hunt has already mentioned, the pint is an unwieldy and indulgent size, guaranteeing a warm beer by the time you’re finished and at least two stumbles on your way home. But I am not here to talk about the failings of a pint, I am here to speak of the glory of the 425ml glass.

Aesthetically it’s perfect. A schooner in the hand has the same feeling as Indiana Jones putting on his hat. You are at last complete. You understand the purpose of hands. An evil friend once, upon becoming a father, remarked that with a baby in one hand and a schooner in the other, he felt as if he could rule the world. Such is the feeling of psychological completeness that comes with this perfect glass. Not to mention that, practically speaking, this fit is also very useful in times when grip strength is paramount while reaction time might be a little waning, for some reason.

Tough choice. Coors, Bud or battery acid. Beer in US seems so weak, it's almost like prohibition is still on. It's s struggle to find a decent pint over there.
Samuel Adam’s do a spring beer, that’s very, very good.

Blue moon was decent in universal studios and a few nice real ales too.

But overall all its “diet” lager there.

Best place for be we found was Memphis. A town that seems to appreciate it's microbreweries who are fighting against the diet lagers to produce some nice brews. Spent more time than we intended there. o_O

The mainstream stuff must be about 1.5%. Would occasionally force down a whole pitcher of the stuff because it was hot, but didn't notice any real alcohol effect.

I'd heard that before I went to America. But I seemed to get drunk quick enough. Budweiser is actually 5% over there.

First born is currently living in Auz, and says they have some decent pale ales.

But the lagers are pizz.

That was my tipple in oz, used to get it in Booths locally, I think i was the only one buying it, not seen it for years here apart from on line

Last one I had in Oz was in Alice Springs watching the sunset from our tent
